About Mitch – Founder of Switchback LED Lighting

Hi, I’m Mitch – founder, owner, and hands-on operator at Switchback LED Lighting.

I’ve been a car enthusiast my whole life. From an early age, I was always pulling things apart, rewiring them, and putting them back together – it was only natural that I’d end up in the electrical trade. I began my Electrical Apprenticeship in 2015, gaining extensive experience in motor control circuits and three-phase systems. By 2019, I was fully qualified and working as an industrial electrician at a flour mill in Bridgewater, VIC.

In 2018, while still working full-time, I launched Switchback LED Lighting as a weekend side project. What started as a passion soon became a full-time business after relocating to Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs. I decided to take the leap and commit myself fully to building a brand focused on quality, innovation, and custom automotive lighting.

Since then, I’ve built over 1,500 custom headlight sets for a wide variety of vehicles, with a strong focus on VE-VF Commodores. These cars hold a special place for me personally, and I’ve made it my mission to deliver top-tier lighting solutions specifically tailored for them.

In 2023, as car theft rates began to rise, I took action by partnering with a local distributor in Tullamarine, VIC to become an Authorised Installer of Author Alarm Anti-Theft Systems. Over the past two years, I’ve installed hundreds of IGLA systems—many in VF Commodores, which are among the most targeted vehicles in the country. As a VF owner myself, I know how important it is to protect what you’ve worked hard for.

In early 2025, I moved Switchback into a dedicated workshop in Eaglehawk, VIC. This move has helped streamline operations and created a healthier balance between work and family life.

As for the future? I’ve always believed in learning by doing. While I don’t have a rigid five-year plan, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead—including potentially growing the team. My priority remains the same: delivering high-quality, custom lighting and vehicle protection solutions while supporting my family and serving my customers with honesty and care.
